Partnering with Homeschool Families
At Northwoods Forest School, we believe homeschooling is a beautiful journey of discovery and growth—for both children and parents. While we are not a school replacement, we are here to help you navigate and enhance your homeschooling experience with structured support, accountability, and enriching activities.

How We Support Homeschool Families:
-
Meeting Minnesota Requirements: A full Northwoods year satisfies the requirements for P.E., Earth Science, Social Studies, and Art.
-
Enriching Education: Through Nature Journaling, writing and penmanship, research on animals and trees, meaningful conversations, and holistic learning, we provide tools to strengthen your child's academic journey.
-
Developing Life Skills: Our program focuses on handwork, practical skills, and inner work that foster confidence, creativity, and independence.
-
Encouraging Social Growth: Northwoods offers a welcoming and supportive community where children can build friendships, practice collaboration, and learn to navigate social interactions in a natural, inclusive environment.
-
Guidance and Accountability: We help craft a structured plan for your year, provide feedback, and offer observations to assist with reporting and record-keeping requirements.

With Northwoods, you’ll gain a partner who respects your unique homeschooling approach while providing the tools, experiences, and social connections to create a meaningful, well-rounded year.
Preschool Program (Ages 3.5 to 5)

Where early learning takes root through rhythm, wonder, and the woods.
At Northwoods Forest School, our preschool program is a gentle blend of nature-immersive play and purposeful early learning. Rooted in timeless childhood rhythms and guided by a deep respect for developmental readiness, each day unfolds in a way that honors both the heart and mind of the child.
Children explore the changing seasons through story, song, movement, and meaningful handwork. Through daily routines and nature-centered experiences, foundational academic skills are woven in organically—preparing children for confident transitions into homeschool or traditional school settings.

Our Preschool Days Include:
-
Nature walks, forest play, and seasonal outdoor exploration
-
Early literacy and numeracy presented in developmentally appropriate ways
-
Storytelling, crafts, and hands-on learning using natural materials
-
Practical life skills and social-emotional development
-
A warm, predictable rhythm that helps children feel secure and capable
This is not a rushed or overly structured academic setting—it is a place where learning flows naturally from curiosity and connection. We guide children in the early stages of reading, writing, and math through real-world encounters, play-based activities, and quiet moments of one-on-one support.

Designed for Lifelong Learners
Whether your child is transitioning into homeschool or public school, our program provides a strong foundation in both academics and confidence. We aim to nurture not only school readiness but also a lifelong love of learning.
